Drum Lessons

(AGES FIVE AND UP)

Overview

Every state-of-the-art drum lesson room is equipped with drum kits for our students. Our instructors teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles of drumming, and challenge every student with technical exercises specifically designed to improve their speed and comfort. Beginning students need only their drumsticks and a notebook, and all that’s needed for practice at home is an inexpensive drum pad. Drummers are encouraged to bring in their favorite drum parts to learn. Many of our students are band members who play in local clubs and churches.

AFRAID of the NOISE? You can purchase an electronic set and use headphones!

Students use our drum set at their lessons and do not have to bring anything except their drum sticks and a notebook.

What’s the #1 reason to choose Okemos Music Academy for drum lessons?

The main reason to choose the Academy as your music lesson provider is that we are sensitive to the fact that every student is an individual.

Our drum instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student’s favorite type of music. Whether you’re playing in local bands, a seven year old taking their first lesson, or a fifty year old returning to the drums after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

What styles of drumming do you teach?

We teach all styles from rock, pop, jazz, country, worship, blues, and classical. We combine the important fundamentals with the music YOU want to play. With all of the teachers at Okemos Music Academy, you are sure to find the best match for YOU.

How qualified are your drum instructors?

Our drum teachers have received their education from prestigious institutions such as Berklee College of Music, Grand Valley State University, Maranatha Baptist Bible College, University of Miami, University of North Texas, Istanbul University State Conservatory, Marshall University, Saginaw Valley State University, Washburn University, The University of Kansas, Boise State University and Michigan State University. Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of the US, North America, Europe, Asia, South America and Australia and have over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience. Our teachers have even performed for 3 different US presidents! In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level.

What will I learn from drum lessons at Okemos Music Academy?

Our drum teachers understand that every student is an individual, with personal musical needs and goals. We make it a priority to tailor how we teach and what we teach to  your individual needs.

We do not treat every student the same in terms of what and how we teach.

When you enroll here for drum lessons, your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set  goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child. Together, you will develop a plan to achieve your goals! We love beginners, so even if you don’t know where to begin, we can help!

Do I need to purchase a drum kit to learn the drums?

Definitely not. Our professional drum lesson rooms are equipped with a drum kit for our students. Just bring your drum sticks and a notebook. Beginning students can practice at home with a drum pad and sticks.
